Aussies experimented with various ingredients to craft their unique version of the classic dish based on British meat pies. The origins of the first meat pie remain unclear, but Australia's adoration for it surged in the 1800s, solidifying its status as a staple meal in the 1900s. However, we do know the origins of the first commercial Australian meat pie. It was produced in 1947 by L. T. McClure in a small bakery in Bendigo.

Yes! We use a proprietary blend of yeast extracts and spices (rather than meat products) to create a rich flavor that is perfect for seasoning all types of savory food. The seasonings are not as salty as pure salt, so use a bit more seasoning than you would salt. The result is a much more robust flavor than salt alone can deliver.

We ship on Mondays with FedEx. Pie boxes consist of frozen pies, dry ice and/or ice packs in insulated boxes. We have tested this combination and want pies to arrive by Thursday (or before). If there are delays, pies can usually stay frozen until Friday. For your safety, if there is any question as to whether the pies are frozen and safe to eat, take an internal temperature. If the pie’s internal temperature is BELOW 40 ℉, it is safe to eat. If the internal temperature is ABOVE 40℉, discard immediately. See “When should I expect my pies” for state-specific information.
